SALC
What is the Student-Alumni Leadership Council?
The Student-Alumni Leadership Council (SALC) is a new student group that includes 22 sophomores, juniors and seniors. The group was selected in September through a competitive application process, and currently meets as a whole twice a month. It is co-advised by staff representatives from Alumni Relations and Student Development. The purpose of the SALC is to provide a stronger connection between students and alumni as well as a smooth transition from student to alumni. They will connect with alumni at a variety of events and will be responsible for programming on campus throughout the year. In turn, the students benefit from valuable leadership experience, unique networking opportunities and professional development training.
The group is recruited in September, and begins meeting in October. They meet for the entire school year. This is an adaptation from a group of senior students that used to form in January and work to coordinate the Senior Class Gift and Senior Celebration event.
So far this school year, the students have served as ambassadors at the campaign kick-off dinner, homecoming celebration brunch, homecoming childcare, homecoming tailgate, faculty recital event in East Grand Rapids, Family Weekend Parents’ Reception, President’s Breakfast, Siblings Breakfast and Off-Campus Study Open House.
